SUMMARY:The Silent Type
DESCRIPTION:The Silent Type\nJune 5 – August 27
Reception: June 5\, 5:30–7:00 PM\nThis summer\, The Silent Type brings together artists and designers whose work explores the intersection of visual design\, natural systems\, and human culture. On view from June 5 through August 27\, the exhibition examines how patterns\, structures\, and processes found in nature are translated into typography\, sculpture\, projection\, materials\, and spatial interventions.\nThrough layered forms of communication—including text\, image\, and three-dimensional design—the exhibition invites viewers to consider how visual language shapes perception\, behavior\, and collective understanding. Both playful and intentional\, the works reveal the quiet ways design mediates our relationship with the natural world and with one another.\nFeatured artists include Tina Christensen\, Leslie Fry\, Michael Jager\, Susan Smereka\, and Elise Whittemore.\nAn opening reception will be held on June 5 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. The public is invited to attend and experience an exhibition that reflects on the subtle dialogue between nature\, design\, and contemporary life.

SUMMARY:14th Annual Green Mountain Watercolor Exhibition (GMWE)
DESCRIPTION:The Valley Artists Guild proudly announces the 14th Annual Green Mountain Watercolor Exhibition (GMWE) —an acclaimed celebration of watercolor painting that has grown from a grassroots show in 2012 into a nationally recognized summer exhibition. \nThe 2026 exhibition will be held June 11 through July 19 at the Historic Red Barn Galleries at Lareau Farm & Forest\, located on Route 100 in Waitsfield\, Vermont. \nFeaturing the work of over 60 accomplished watercolor artists from across the United States\, the exhibition draws more than 3\,000 visitors each year to experience a vibrant and diverse range of contemporary watercolor painting\, including entries in conjunction with the Whiskey Painters of America—it’s a show within a show! \nThis year\, more than $7\,000 in awards will be presented to artists demonstrating exceptional skill and vision in the medium. \nThe exhibition has received international attention\, including recognition by the French publication Art of Watercolour as one of America’s premier summer watercolor exhibitions. This distinction continues to attract highly regarded jurors who carefully select outstanding works for inclusion and award honors. \nCome spend an evening summer with us in the beautiful Big Red Barn at Lareau Farm (home of American Flatbread)\, Waitsfield\, VT. Gallery hours are the same as American Flatbread dinner hours\, Thursday through Sunday.

SUMMARY:Silhouettes by Deborah O’Connor.
DESCRIPTION:The silhouette was displaced as the most popular form of portraiture by the invention of the camera around 1835. But a camera has never captured the “essence” of a person in the almost magical way that a silhouette does. Discover for yourself why parents today still seek out the few existing artists who practice this almost extinct art. \nAll ages are welcome \nIt’s amazing to watch as the silhouettes are cut freehand\, using paper and scissors as the only tool. In five minutes or less\, a profile portrait is created in exacting detail! Multiple layers of paper can be cut at once\, producing extra copies which sell for half price. These make great gifts for grandparents. The “original” silhouette is $ 30. Classic oval frames will be available starting at $20. Silhouettes can be framed individually or grouped. The artist\, Deborah O’Connor has been cutting silhouettes for fifty years. A Rhode Island native\, she has worked primarily in New England but as far away as Tokyo\, Disneyland\, Hawaii\, and various other states. \nSign up to ensure a sitting. Book one five minute spot for each person. 802-496-3864 Walk-ins accommodated as time allows.
