SUMMARY:Missing Pieces – East Coast Premier
DESCRIPTION:Imagine community arts night meets supper club. That is the energy we are capturing at this event. Come share a meal with friends and neighbors\, browse art by local artists and students\, and then end the evening with the first East Coast screening of the movie Missing Pieces\, written and directed by the Valley’s own Cameron Andrews.\nCameron and the Missing Pieces cast and crew have been screening the movie at film festivals\, having won Best Director and Best Actress in a feature at North Hollywood Cinefest. Cameron wanted this event to be about community and sharing the importance of supporting the Arts\, especially in our young people. \nFeel free to join us for dinner and art browsing\, or you can also drop in for the movie at 7pm.   Admission will be by donation\, and all money will go to the Big Pic.\nIf you would like to join us you can sign up for the potluck here:https://bit.ly/BigPicPotluck\n\nCam’s vision:\nMissing Pieces has always been a community affair\, from the crowdfunding that made it possible to the time donated by its cast and crew in order to get it made. I hope to keep this spirit going through every screening. The Valley is where I first learned what community meant\, and I have carried the Valley with me through every phase of my life. With this event I’d like to not only screen my film for my hometown\, but actively involve the community as well. Support from family\, friends\, and teachers is what initially gave me the belief in myself to pursue art as a career. Now\, bringing this project of mine home\, I’d love to offer space to local artists\, especially Harwood students\, whether painters\, poets\, or even filmmakers\, to showcase their art ahead of our showing. And nothing says family like a home cooked meal. I’d love to host a community potluck before the screening in tandem with the local artists’ display to allow the community to gather\, hang out\, and enjoy some local art before the screening. I see it as an arts-focused supper club\, with our film as the centerpiece. I believe that the future of art\, and film specifically lies not in seeing it only as a finished product to be consumed\, but as a process which has been undertaken by the artists who made it. I want to celebrate that process and the joy of creating with the people who have helped me cultivate that joy.\nCheck out the Trailer

SUMMARY:Zero Celsius
DESCRIPTION:ZERO CELSIUS takes place at Mad Arts and Sugarbush Resort\, and gathers artists who explore the textures\, tensions\, and transformations of winter. \nFrom the hush of frozen landscapes to the volatility of a warming climate\, the exhibition reflects on how the cold season shapes—and is reshaped by—human and environmental relationships. \nBringing together sculpture\, installation\, sound\, photography\, and digital media\, ZERO CELSIUS examines winter as material\, concept\, and metaphor: crystalline\, fleeting\, and ecologically vital. The exhibition invites visitors to consider the fragility of snow in a changing world\, to reconnect with winter’s wonder and silence\, and to share their own stories and memories of a season both timeless and increasingly imperiled.

SUMMARY:Big Conversations in 10 Short Minutes
DESCRIPTION:Big Conversations in 10 Short Minutes is a virtual meetup in the Mad River Valley. There is no agenda other than to meet and enjoy brief conversations with others in the community. \nHere’s how it works: We’ll give you a couple of conversation prompts. One is simple. One leans more toward the philosophical. You’ll be paired with someone to have a short\, 10-minute conversation about the prompt of your choice. When you’re done\, you’ll be paired with someone else for a new conversation with new prompts. The prompts are simple. The conversations are non-political. We like to think of it as a little pocket of meaning at the end of a long day. \nCredit to the Scarborough Public Library and associated Maine Libraries for developing the Big Conversations in 10 Short Minutes program.

SUMMARY:Harwood Auditorium Revitalization Project at the Big Picture; Featuring Reid Parsons
DESCRIPTION:Harwood Alum\, Reid Parsons\, will return to the Mad River Valley to headline a fundraising concert for the Harwood Auditorium Revitalization Project at the Big Picture on Saturday\, January 17th. The show will celebrate the legacy of high-quality music education at Harwood by featuring Parsons and including the current HUHS student band\, the Glam Cowboys\, as the opening act. \nThe show is part of a concert series presented throughout the Harwood district to support HARP\, the Harwood Auditorium Revitalization Project. HARP was created to raise funds for key improvements that will benefit students\, educators\, and the broader community. The HARP seeks to transform an aging facility into a vibrant\, safe\, and fully equipped space that reflects the talent and dedication of our students and community. Despite years of excellence in our Music and Theater programs\, the theater itself has not been substantially renovated since 1997 and no longer meets the needs of modern performances. \nHarwood Theater Director Scott Weigand felt Parsons was a perfect choice to perform since she reflects the longstanding high caliber of the HUHS Music Department. A 2011 Harwood alum\, Parsons was very involved in the Harwood Music department and was the lead in “Annie Get Your Gun” in 2009\, the first Harwood show Weigand directed. \nParsons is now a Burlington-based singer-songwriter whose music blends soul\, folk\, blues\, and jazz-infused Americana into something both grounded and expansive. Her debut full-length album\, “Back to Back”\, released in the spring of 2025\, showcases her signature style: expressive vocals\, layered arrangements\, and songs that are as emotionally resonant as they are sonically rich. Written\, arranged\, and produced by Parsons herself\, the record moves confidently between intimate ballads and full-band tracks with a deep sense of groove and feeling. \nOpening the show for Parsons will be the Glam Cowboys\, Harwood’s next generation of talent\, made up of active members of the Harwood Music and Theater Departments. The Glam Cowboys are an indie-pop/rock band featuring Eireann McDonough on lead vocals\, Tarin Askew on guitar and vocals\, Cora Potts on drums\, Cali Neville on bass\, and Eliza Whitehair on keys.\nKnown for their coordinated attire and live energy\, they perform a diverse collection of original music. They have performed at venues such as Zen Barn\, Higher Ground\, Firefolk Arts\, and recently in MRVTV’s In-Studio Live Music Series. \nTickets are available at:\nhttps://www.bigpicturetheater.info/event-details/harwood-auditorium-revitalization-project-presen ts-reid-parsons
