SUMMARY:Bread and Puppet presents: Autumn Screams and Possibilitarian Hallelujahs of the Servants of the Abyss
DESCRIPTION:September 14th\, 21st and 28th at 3 p.m. \nJoin us in the Paper Maché Cathedral for a brand new\, urgently-needed puppet show. Keeping the work up-to-the-minute\, the show will evolve over the course of the month. \nIn Peter Schumann’s words: “We the involuntary servants of the abyss\, both: the wounded universe abyss and the abysmal empire abyss\, are charged with the possibilitarian task of revolutionizing the human abyss – not to allow the empire’s rotten apples to spoil the Autumn’s applesauce\, because of the invincible because! Because we children of mother dirt need to be nourished by real applesauce while spreading poppy flag wisdom throughout the hills and valleys of the here\, not succumbing to empire normality. All our banners say Yes and kick the arse of the No and can’t be stopped from marching even when thunder and lightning threaten the day. Whether the weather is good or whether the weather is bad\, whatever the weather we’ll weather the weather\, whether we like it or not.” \nTickets: $15\, no one turned away for lack of funds.\n*Capacity is limited at our indoor shows*\nhttps://breadandpuppet.org/product/september-show-9-14-25 \nDogs are not permitted at our indoor performances.

SUMMARY:Book Signing w/ Award Winning Author & Filmmaker Stephen Vittoria
DESCRIPTION:Come meet author & filmmaker Stephen Vittoria!\nStephen will be at Bear Pond Books in Stowe from 1-3pm signing copies of his new novel CHRISTINA AND THE WHITEFISH.\nThis is truly a book that is needed in our dark times. \nDave Zirin of The Nation said: “Christina and the Whitefish is a joy to read. If Bruce Springsteen wrote fiction\, it would read a great deal like this. \nStephen Vittoria is an award-winning filmmaker and author.\nHis last two feature documentaries—Mumia: Long Distance Revolutionary and One Bright Shining Moment: The Forgotten Summer of George McGovern—have been embraced by moviegoers and audiences worldwide. \nVittoria was also a producer on two feature documentaries by Academy Award winner Alex Gibney: Gonzo: The Life & Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson and Magic Trip: Ken Kesey’s Search for a Kool Place. Along with journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal\, Vittoria co-authored the three-book nonfiction series Murder Incorporated: Empire\, Genocide\, and Manifest Destiny—with forewords by Angela Davis\, S. Brian Willson\, and Chris Hedges. \nVittoria is the founder and creative director of two Southern California production companies: Street Legal Cinema and Deep Image. \nRegarding Vittoria as a storyteller\, legendary filmmaker\, Albert Maysles\, publicly petitioned his colleagues in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences to consider Vittoria’s documentary feature\, Mumia: Long Distance Revolutionary\, for Oscar consideration. \nThe Book: \nIt’s 1994. Christina\, a young Gulf War veteran struggling with PTSD and the loss of both parents\, drives cross-country in a borrowed car\, desperately seeking relief and redemption in Asbury Park\, the seaside mecca of her childhood. It’s a place well past its prime and reigned over by the self-proclaimed King of Asbury Park: The Whitefish—a disabled Vietnam vet\, tavern owner\, artist\, and philosopher. It’s here\, on the Jersey shore\, that a chance meeting leads to a profound and life-altering connection. Rewind to the eighties: two girls\, best friends\, falling in love was something to be kept secret. \nReaching adulthood\, Christina and Jaime move to Las Vegas to escape prejudice and build a new life. Unable to cope with her parents’ deaths and convinced she’s doing the right thing for herself and her country\, Christina enlists in the U.S. Army\, only to find herself racked by a further and compounding wartime trauma. Christina and the Whitefish is a powerful novel that questions the conventional treatment and care methods veterans receive in an inadequate\, pharmaceutical-driven system\, bringing to light just how critical human connection is to wellbeing and survival. \n“Christina and the Whitefish” asks tough questions about how to love and when to leave\, questions that reveal a critical truth: family can be birthed from circumstance. And then\, even in the pain and the stumbling\, if you don’t give up—keep seeking and moving toward something better—friends and healing will find you—and love\, no matter how battered\, can endure even the darkest of times.

SUMMARY:Feast of Fools Community Festival
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Vermont’s vibrant arts scene at this preview Feast of Fools Community Festival\, happening Sunday\, Sept. 21 at Camp Meade in Middlesex. This one-day celebration runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers a lively taste of what’s to come when the full Feast of Fools Festival launches in 2026. \nThe Feast of Fools began in medieval Europe as a day of revelry when commoners became kings\, fools became prophets\, and music\, laughter\, and food united communities. In that tradition\, Camp Meade will come alive with circus\, music\, food\, and community gathering. \nHighlights include: \nMiddlesex Artisan Market – 11:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. featuring quality local creators\nThe Red Trouser Show – internationally renowned circus stars performing at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. \nThe Hokum Brothers – Vermont’s own fun-loving band playing two sets at noon and 2:00 p.m. \nBrass Balagan – raucous street brass at 4:00 p.m. \nMontpelier Alive’s New Resident Mixer – 3:00–5:00 p.m. \nONE Arts – face-painting and creative projects for all ages\, 2:00–5:00 p.m. \nAnd because no “feast” is complete without food: vendors including Woodbelly Pizza (12:00–5:00 p.m.) and The Local Wine & Beer (12:00–5:00 p.m.) will keep the crowd well-fed and happy. \n“The Feast of Fools has always been about joy\, resilience\, and community\,” says festival founder Woody Keppel. “This preview is just the beginning—a playful promise of the full festival to come.”\nSuggested donation: Adults $10\, Kids $5\nNo one turned away for lack of funds!

SUMMARY:Bread and Puppet presents: Autumn Screams and Possibilitarian Hallelujahs of the Servants of the Abyss
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the Paper Maché Cathedral for a brand new\, urgently-needed puppet show.
