To support that vision the chamber’s is launching a new series of Stand Up for Safety workshops designed to help hospitality workers recognize and respond to situations that may threaten the safety or well-being of themselves\, their co-workers\, or their guests. \nThese interactive sessions will equip front-line staff with practical tools to: \n\nRecognize signs of harm\, harassment\, or exploitation\nRespond appropriately and safely when concerns arise\nConnect individuals in need with the right support services\n\nThe workshops are approachable\, hands-on\, and rooted in real-world hospitality settings — from restaurants and inns to shops and recreation businesses. While the curriculum is still being finalized\, the goal is clear: to ensure the Mad River Valley remains a safe and welcoming place for all. Traditional inns\, hotels\, and lodges have gradually declined\, while short-term rentals (STRs) now make up a significant portion of the Valley’s visitor bed base. \nAt the same time\, municipalities are actively discussing housing pressures\, STR regulations\, and how to balance tourism with community needs. These shifts have created both opportunities and tensions\, and it’s more important than ever that the STR sector engages constructively in shaping the Valley’s visitor economy. \nThe Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce is convening an initial meeting to begin building a collaborative table for dialogue and action. \nWhy This Conversation Matters\nFor decades\, traditional lodging properties carried much of the responsibility for promoting the Valley as a visitor destination. To support that vision the chamber’s is launching a new series of Stand Up for Safety workshops designed to help hospitality workers recognize and respond to situations that may threaten the safety or well-being of themselves\, their co-workers\, or their guests. \nThese interactive sessions will equip front-line staff with practical tools to: \n\nRecognize signs of harm\, harassment\, or exploitation\nRespond appropriately and safely when concerns arise\nConnect individuals in need with the right support services\n\nThe workshops are approachable\, hands-on\, and rooted in real-world hospitality settings — from restaurants and inns to shops and recreation businesses. While the curriculum is still being finalized\, the goal is clear: to ensure the Mad River Valley remains a safe and welcoming place for all. SUMMARY:Stand Up For Safety Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In the Mad River Valley\, we believe that everyone — whether they live here\, work here\, or visit — deserves to feel safe. The MRV CARES Stand Up for Safety workshops are designed to help hospitality workers recognize and respond to situations that may threaten the safety or well-being of themselves\, their co-workers\, or guests. \nThrough these interactive sessions\, participants will gain tools and awareness to: \n\n\nRecognize the signs of potential harm\, harassment\, or exploitation. \n\n\nRespond appropriately and safely when concerns arise. \n\n\nConnect those in need with the right support services. \n\n\nThe training is practical\, approachable\, and rooted in real-world hospitality settings — from restaurants and inns to shops and recreation businesses. While the curriculum is still being finalized\, the goal is clear: to equip front-line staff with the confidence and knowledge to help keep the Mad River Valley a safe and welcoming place for everyone. \nWorkshop Details\nOctober 22-  10-11 am : GBV Bystander Training \nLearn the basics of gender-based violence bystander training. You will learn the 4D’s in bystander prevention and how you can empower yourself and others to stand up and make a difference in the lives of your co-workers and customers. \nJanuary 7 – 10-11 am: Understanding DV\, HT\, and Stalking \nThis month we will dive into various forms of gender-based violence: domestic violence\, human trafficking\, and stalking. We will look at how these crimes can be identified in customers and also with your coworkers and learn how to respond with compassion and action. We will also identify local and national resources. \nApril 1 – 10-11 am: Sexual Assault Awareness Month \nIn this session learn about the various forms of sexual assault and how we can stand up during Sexual Assault Awareness Month and all year long. We will identify how to recognize the signs that may lead up to sexual assault as well as how to respond if someone discloses to you. We will also identify local and national resources. \nAugust 5 – 10-11 am Workplace Culture \nCreating a supportive culture in the workplace takes leadership and response from all members. This session examines how we can effectively lead and create a supportive place for all. Looking at language and action through stories\, exercises\, and videos\, attendees will learn how to be stand-up in all aspects of their jobs. \nMRV CARES is a collaboration between local businesses\, resorts\, and organizations committed to standing up to gender-based violence and fostering a community of care.
