DESCRIPTION:Living Tree Alliance’s camps immerse children in the life of the homestead\, rivers and forests through farming\, cooking\, nature crafts\, swimming\, and forest and field games. In the afternoon\, participants explore the forest through play\, fort building and of course spend ample time splashing in the Mad River and Dowsville Creek. Preschoolers will be welcome this week. SUMMARY:Home Design/Build
DESCRIPTION:This course has been offered since 1980 and is the heart of our curriculum. It is appropriate for a range of individuals\, from the person who wants to “do it all” to the person who simply wants to be informed enough to have meaningful and productive conversations with his or her architect and builder. Students will learn through hands-on construction projects\, studio sessions\, lectures\, slide shows\, house tours\, and discussion. The Home Design/Build Course will provide individuals with the fundamental skills and resources necessary for creating their dream home – be it new construction or renovation. This course is also a good introduction for those interested in pursuing an architecture or building career. At the end of this intensive course\, students typically leave with schematic floor plans\, a scale model\, and section and elevation drawings. They have gained a new awareness of design\, materials\, and the process of realizing a home that reflects their values and lifestyle.

SUMMARY:Design/Build for Public Spaces
DESCRIPTION:You will engage in the hands-on process of designing and building a full-scale community project alongside a nonprofit partner or local community member. Class kicks off with a client meeting where students address a structural need. From there\, the  team will work within a budget\, propose and develop a design\, schedule the work\, and ultimately build the structure throughout the duration of this two-week class. \nA flagship Yestermorrow course that has yielded whimsical structures like the infamous Snail bus stop structure\, a mobile farm stand for Shelburne Farms\, and a trail shelter for the Mad River Path and more. Students are given the creative freedom to design a project that meets the unique needs of their client. As a result\, this course often produces unique and whimsical structures – a building style that Yestermorrow is known for. \nThis year\, we will be building a structure for the new Warren Dog Park. Make your mark on the community\, and provide shelter for your neighbors for years to come.

SUMMARY:Floodplains Workshop with Vermont DEC
DESCRIPTION:Are you curious about what a floodplain is and why you hear that term in almost every discussion on flooding and climate resilience? \nThen\, join Friends of the Mad River and Ned Swanberg of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (VT DEC) to learn about what floodplains are\, why they are so important to health and safety\, and how the river and precipitation shapes the valley that we call home. Ned is a regional floodplain manager for Vermont Central\, and manages https://floodready.vermont.gov. \nThe workshop will hold at the Austin parcel\, which is also the location of an ongoing floodplain forest restoration project. We’ll learn about riverside soils\, plants\, and other signs to discern the health and vitality of the river and how it affects our lives. We’ll also learn from our local experts on the history of the land and see the progress of the ongoing restoration work. \nInterested? Email onome@friendsofthemadriver.org to register or with questions/concerns. \nPlease come dressed appropriately to be outdoors for 1-2 hours. \nDistance: 0.5 – 1 mile\nTerrain: Trail is mostly flat and consists of dirt trails covered in leaf litter or grass. DESCRIPTION:The Montpelier Chamber Orchestra is back\, and like Montpelier and other Vermont post-flood towns\, is becoming vibrant again. We will be holding our first full concert in almost four years. Locally well-known music director Daniel Bruce will be conducting Beethoven’s 7th Symphony\, Mozart’s Overture to the Marriage of Figaro\, Ravel’s Pavane for a Dead Princess\, and Florence Price’s uplifting Andante Moderato from her String Quartet in G Major. The concert will be free\, with a suggested donation of $20 for adults\, $10 for students and seniors\, and no charge for children.
