SUMMARY:RISE: Trees\, Our Botanical Giants
DESCRIPTION:Mad River Valley Arts is excited to present its first group show of the year entitled RISE: Trees\, Our Botanical Giants from March 7- April 26\, 2024. There will be a reception on March 7\, 5-7pm when first\, second and third place prize winners will be announced. Twenty-eight artists are participating\, addressing their relationships with trees in 2D and 3D formats\, some employing wood materials which are reclaimed or formally crafted and some using ceramic\, textiles and functional design. All push the conversation between human-made and nature-made objects into one of collaborative revelation.\nShelby Perry\, a Wildlands Ecologist with Northeast Wilderness Trust will be giving a talk on Trees and Rewilding\, April 18 at 5pm. This event is free and open to all. The Gallery exhibit is open Tuesday through Saturday from 1:00-5:00pm.

SUMMARY:Amphibian Crossing Series
DESCRIPTION:Every spring\, amphibians migrate from forests to wetlands\, following a biological process that often returns them to the same vernal pools where they were born. Their route often traverses roads and they are hard to see by motorists on the dark\, wet nights during which they prefer to travel. This is where we come in – as amphibian “crossing guards”! \nWe’ll be offering a training event\, amphibian crossing kits\, and a night crossing event. Visit https://www.friendsofthemadriver.org/news/amphibian-crossing-series for more details. \nThis series is made possible by Friends of the Mad River\, MRV Libraries\, and North Branch Nature Center. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Mad River Valley Backcountry Coalition Dawn Patrol
DESCRIPTION:Skiers and riders will meet at either Sugarbush or Mad River Glen in the wee hours of the morning to rise and rip! Exact time and location will be TBD each week based on conditions. The event leader will communicate the details each week via email/text to all who opt in to the group. Feel free to email info@mrvbc.org for more info. Uphill passes required at Sugarbush. SUMMARY:Drag Story Hour
DESCRIPTION:Drag Story Hour (DSH) is just what it sounds like… \n…drag performers reading stories to children in libraries\, schools\, and bookstores. DSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous\, positive\, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this\, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish\, where dress up is real. \nEmoji Nightmare and Katniss Everqueer\, two of Vermont’s favorite queer performing artists\, will be sure to delight and captivate audience members of all ages as they share stories focused on individuality\, activism\, gender\, creativity\, expression\, and social responsibility. \nDSH was created by Michelle Tea and RADAR Productions in San Francisco in 2015. The Vermont Chapter of DSH was created by Emoji Nightmare and Nikki Champagne in 2017. In 2021\, Emoji joined the national board of directors for DSH. For more information on DSH\, visit DragStoryHour.org. \nThis event is funded by a grant from the Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation’s Samara Fund and is part of The Vermont Chapter’s 2024 Rural Outreach Program.

SUMMARY:A Celebration of Showing Up: Storytelling and More…
DESCRIPTION:In the realm of ideas everything depends on enthusiasm\, in the real world all rests on perseverance. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe) \nJoin us for an evening of inspiring stories told by Vermont storytellers\, celebrating the work of the communities of compassion that are all around us. You’ll get to hear stories told by some very known Vermonters\, and from people who will be new to you. They come from Vermont Public Radio\, state government\, Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports\, Vermont Public Interest Research Group\, Spectrum\, Energy Action Network and other organizations. \nThe ‘Master of Ceremonies’ is Irish storyteller Gareth Higgins. Gareth was born in Belfast in 1975\, grew up during “The Troubles” in northern Ireland\, and is now a writer\, speaker\, and activist. He’s also a wonderful storyteller who pulls you in with warmth\, vulnerability\, and lots of humor. Gareth will be joined by James Stewart\, Vermont musician extraordinaire and VPR host.
