DESCRIPTION:An OPEN BARN event to support artists participating in a residency this summer \nDon’t miss seeing the upcoming full-occlusion solar eclipse! The Mad River Valley will be in the perfect path for viewing this celestial event\, and Stowell Barn is surrounded by a beautiful unobstructed vista that can’t be beat. Eclipse photographers looking for where to set up? Look no further! \nCome check out our recently-restored historic space and enjoy some light snacks\, good company\, games\, a celestially-themed playlist\, and a collaborative dance composition demo following the eclipse (no dance experience needed to participate). All are welcome! \nThis event is open to the public\, and will be ‘contribute what you can’ at the door/online. All contributions* will directly support dancers and choreographers participating in the CHIMERA Art Co-Lab hosted by Farmsprung Gatherings in July\, 2024. \nWe are opening the barn doors early this year for this special event: keep in mind that this is Vermont in early April\, and the barn is technically 3 season so it may be CHILLY! We have a patio heater for hand warming and are planning for some warm beverages\, but check the weather and dress accordingly. \nLimited parking on site on the grass\, with additional public parking at Common Road. \nRemember you shouldn’t look directly at the eclipse—bring protective eye-wear! We will have limited eclipse shades available. \n*Please note that financial contributions—although directly benefiting artists—are not tax deductible. \nA note re: accessibility–if you have specific needs please alert us ahead of time and we will do everything we can to accommodate you! We have portable ramps to make our barn space and dance floor accessible\, but the space is surrounded by grass which can be challenging for wheelchairs.

DESCRIPTION:Skiers and riders will meet at either Sugarbush or Mad River Glen in the wee hours of the morning to rise and rip! Exact time and location will be TBD each week based on conditions. The event leader will communicate the details each week via email/text to all who opt in to the group. Feel free to email info@mrvbc.org for more info. Uphill passes required at Sugarbush. All participants must read and adhere to the uphill policies: Sugarbush and Mad River Glen. All participants will be required to complete a waiver through MRVBC for each Thursday. Bring coffee/tea\, snacks\, and layers. See our Difficulty Rating System (https://www.mrvbc.org/events/tours) to determine if MRVBC’s tours are the right fit for you. This will be an intermediate uphill pace\, not a race! The downhill could be advanced terrain depending on conditions and route. DESCRIPTION:Drag Story Hour (DSH) is just what it sounds like… \n…drag performers reading stories to children in libraries\, schools\, and bookstores. DSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous\, positive\, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this\, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish\, where dress up is real. \nEmoji Nightmare and Katniss Everqueer\, two of Vermont’s favorite queer performing artists\, will be sure to delight and captivate audience members of all ages as they share stories focused on individuality\, activism\, gender\, creativity\, expression\, and social responsibility. \nDSH was created by Michelle Tea and RADAR Productions in San Francisco in 2015. The Vermont Chapter of DSH was created by Emoji Nightmare and Nikki Champagne in 2017. In 2021\, Emoji joined the national board of directors for DSH. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe) \nJoin us for an evening of inspiring stories told by Vermont storytellers\, celebrating the work of the communities of compassion that are all around us. You’ll get to hear stories told by some very known Vermonters\, and from people who will be new to you. They come from Vermont Public Radio\, state government\, Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports\, Vermont Public Interest Research Group\, Spectrum\, Energy Action Network and other organizations. \nThe ‘Master of Ceremonies’ is Irish storyteller Gareth Higgins. Gareth was born in Belfast in 1975\, grew up during “The Troubles” in northern Ireland\, and is now a writer\, speaker\, and activist. He’s also a wonderful storyteller who pulls you in with warmth\, vulnerability\, and lots of humor. Gareth will be joined by James Stewart\, Vermont musician extraordinaire and VPR host.

DESCRIPTION:The Moretown Clean Water Committee will provide an update for town residents on its effort to site and design a wastewater treatment system for Moretown Village and surrounding area on Tuesday\, April 16\, 2024 at 7 pm at the Moretown Elementary School. \nThe committee has been working with Otter Creek Engineering and the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation to locate sites where a system could be installed\, and on different design options for such a system. The presentation will also include an update on the status of the $3.55 million funding that is available to the Town for the project. \nPlease join us for the presentation and to share your questions and comments about the study and its results to date. Grief can often feel very solitary\, but sharing our stories of sorrow with others helps bring light to the darkness. In the Sorrows & Sunshine workshop\, Rachel will guide participants through an explorative writing exercise designed to shine a warm light on our sorrows\, followed by optional story-telling. \nAbout Rachel\nRachel’s own apprenticeship to grief began in Feb 2020 when her father was diagnosed with ALS. During his dying process\, she started talking – and writing – about her experience navigating his disease and death (Where The Love Lies). Whether in the US\, an emerging economy\, or a post-disaster environment\, successful housing markets arise when the underlying value chains of supply and demand are synchronized to respectively produce houses (supply) and finance (demand) at compatible price points. Anya will describe how the Affordable Housing Institute uses a practical\, rigorous\, and comprehensive methodology to understand and evaluate a local housing market\, identify key levers for change\, and to design and implement new paradigm solutions for urgent affordable housing and urban development challenges.

DESCRIPTION:For the second consecutive year the Mad River Valley towns Green Up Committees are collaborating to make the most of the effort. They are coordinating their efforts under the banner of the Mad River Valley Green Valley Rally. \nVermont’s annual Green Up Day takes place on Saturday\,May 4\, 2024 with the Green Valley Rally being the epicenter for all activities here in the MRV. It will take place at the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center (at the corner of Routes 100 and 17) from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. People can stop by to pick up Green Up bags\, morning snacks\, and roadside assignments. People will also have the chance to learn more about volunteer opportunities with the Friends of the Mad River\, stewardMRV\, and Valley knotweed eradication programs. \nEvent Timeline \n\n8 – 10 am             Bag Pick-up & Breakfast Treats\n8 am -2 pm         Can and Bottle Drop Off (see deets below)\nNoon to 2 pm    MRV Steward Organizations Volunteer Job Fair|\nNoon to 2 pm     BBQ for Green Up Day Volunteers\nBag Drop Offs     Bring Your Green Bags to Earthwise Santiation’s Waitsfield Transfer Station. They are open on the Saturday of Green Up Day from 8 am to 2 pm\n\nGUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT\nVermont’s Green Up Day coordinators are working to set a world record for The Most Pledges Received to Clean in 24 Hours ” We need to sign up 5\,000 Vermonters to set the record VT Top to Bottom Green Up  – From Canada to Massachusetts – Green Up Vermont is organizing the longest litter pick up team ever.”\n• 223 miles from North Troy to Stamford – 446 if we go North & South\n• Volunteers start at every mile mark\n• Route complete in about one hour \nGREEN UP DAY BOTTLE DRIVE\nOrganizers are asking all Green Up Day volunteers to separate clean(ish) refundable cans found along the roadsides this year. They will provide separate clear bags for these cans and ask that people bring the bags back to the Welcome Center. They can also bring refundable cans and bottles back to the tent. Organizers will redeem the cans and donate all funds to the Mad River Valley Interfaith Council\, which serves neighbors in need. \nVOLUNTEER JOB FAIR\nStarting at noon and running through 2 p.m. there will be a BBQ for Green Up Day and stewardMRV volunteers. During that time there will also be a stewardMRV volunteer job fair. People can learn more about other conservation and stewardship opportunities. Representatives from various local organizations involved in stewardship in The Valley will be on hand to share information about volunteer opportunities. Those interested can look into becoming a stewardMRV site steward\, a Friends of the Mad River Watch volunteer\, a Mad River Path volunteer or even help out with the Mad River Valley Recreation District. \nWasted Portalet Demo\nCheck out the new Wasted portalets that will be used at stewardMRV sites around the MRV this year. There will also be a sample of the Wasted Off-Grid toilets we will be testing out this season. \nTIRE RECYCLING\nThe Mad River Resource Management Alliance (MRRMA) is collecting tires at the Earthwise Transfer Station on Green Up Day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those who find a tire along a roadside can bring it to the transfer station for recycling free of charge. To recycle personal tires\, the MRRMA will process those (with or without rims) for $5 each. \nVOLUNTEER BBQ\nThere will be a BBQ for all Green Up day volunteers to come celebrate our collective efforts.
