SUMMARY:Poet’s Choice
DESCRIPTION:What if an angel offered a choice between a lifetime of happiness or fame and fortune as a result of expressing  art? That is the question that Margaret (Sarah Storjohann\, Barre)\, a poet\, writer\, and English professor\, must face in this World Premier play by Vermonter Mary Pratt. Pem (Susan Lonyd\, Fayston)\, a fallen angel chosen by God (Cynthia Seckler\, Fayston) and Satan (Gabrielle Tamasi\, Barre) themselves to settle this wager\, comes to earth to find an artist to pose this question to\, with admittance to heaven and wings or hell and a flamethrower on the line for Pem. The show also features Sarah DeBouter (Berlin)\, Wes Olds (Graniteville)\, and Carrie Phillips (Waterbury). Bridget Edwards (Winooski) is the Stage Manager and the show is directed by Doug Bergstein (Waitsfield). \nShow dates/times are Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2 pm\, March 8-17. Tickets are $18 for evenings and $14 for Sunday matinees. Go to http://valleyplayers.com to buy tickets in advance.

SUMMARY:Amphibian Crossing Series
DESCRIPTION:Every spring\, amphibians migrate from forests to wetlands\, following a biological process that often returns them to the same vernal pools where they were born. Their route often traverses roads and they are hard to see by motorists on the dark\, wet nights during which they prefer to travel. This is where we come in – as amphibian “crossing guards”! \nWe’ll be offering a training event\, amphibian crossing kits\, and a night crossing event. Visit https://www.friendsofthemadriver.org/news/amphibian-crossing-series for more details. \nThis series is made possible by Friends of the Mad River\, MRV Libraries\, and North Branch Nature Center. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:BUILDING AFFORDABILITY SPEAKER SERIES – AFFORDABLE HOUSING: UNDERSTANDING LOCAL AND GLOBAL APPROACHES WITH ANYA BRICKMAN RAREDON
DESCRIPTION:Spring 2024 Speaker Series: Building Equity\nAffordable Housing: Understanding Local and Global Approaches with Anya Brickman Raredon \nDrawing from her experience in over 20 countries\, Anya Brickman Raredon will share examples of housing ecosystem analyses that have led to the development of programs\, policies\, and projects to increase access and affordability of housing around the world. Whether in the US\, an emerging economy\, or a post-disaster environment\, successful housing markets arise when the underlying value chains of supply and demand are synchronized to respectively produce houses (supply) and finance (demand) at compatible price points. Anya will describe how the Affordable Housing Institute uses a practical\, rigorous\, and comprehensive methodology to understand and evaluate a local housing market\, identify key levers for change\, and to design and implement new paradigm solutions for urgent affordable housing and urban development challenges.

SUMMARY:Total Eclipse Viewing in the MRV
DESCRIPTION:Mad River Valley\, Vermont is gearing up to be one of the premier locations worldwide for witnessing the solar eclipse of 2024. Beyond a place for optimal viewing conditions teh MRV offers spectacular scenery and an opportunity to combine the experience with some awesome spring skiing.  The area will be positioned in the path of totality\, offering folks the chance to experience the eclipse in its most breathtaking form\, complete with the magical moments of totality when the moon fully covers the sun. \nEclipse Viewing in the MRV \n\n\nIn the path of totality: Yes\nPercentage of totality 100%\nDuration of totality: 1 minute\, 32 seconds\nEclipse Begins – Monday April 8\, 2024 at 2:14 pm\nMaximum – Monday April 8\, 2024 at 3:28 pm\n\n\nGiven the unparalleled opportunity to observe this natural wonder in such an idyllic setting\, demand for accommodations is predicted to be high. Visitors are encouraged  to book lodging as soon as possible. \nPlaces to Stay for the Eclipse\nWhat is a Solar Eclipse?\nThe solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun\, blocking some or all of the Sun’s light from reaching the Earth’s surface. Depending on where you are located\, you may experience a partial or total solar eclipse. Experiencing a solar eclipse can be a once-in-a-lifetime event\, and many people travel to specific locations to witness them. In 2024\,  Vermont’s Mad River Valley will be in the path of totality for the solar eclipse. Meaning\, we will have a front row seat to the action! On April 8th\, 2024 all of Northern Vermont will experience a total eclipse of the sun\, make sure you are in the path of totality for the full experience! \nIf you are interested in viewing a solar eclipse\, it is important to take appropriate precautions to protect your eyes\, such as using special solar viewing glasses or watching the eclipse through a pinhole projector. It is also important to plan ahead and make sure you have a place to stay and a clear view of the sky!
