DESCRIPTION:One of the pioneers of the Prickly Mountain design/build movement\, architect Jim Sanford will give a presentation on the construction of the Dimetrodon\, a truly unique example of multifamily housing. Jim will discuss how the design/build process influenced the final building\, why the architects felt it important to prioritize multifamily living\, and what they would or would not do again. Go under the hood of one of Vermont’s most iconic residential buildings from the perspective of its original designers\, builders\, and inhabitants. \nThis talk is presented as part of our Fall 2025 Speaker Series. All talks are free and open to the public\, and take place Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 8 pm. No registration required\, just drop by. \nTwice a year\, we curate a series of lectures on a design/build theme. This Fall we are tackling part two of our “Innovative Homes” series\, this time focusing in on multi-family homes. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Harwood Union High School Volleyball Team. 5:30 -8:30 pm on Friday\, November 14th. \nWe are excited to host a second annual fun night out for kids! All funds raised will support the purchase of equipment and supplies for the Harwood Girls Volleyball Team\, comprised of 24 athletes slaying it on the volleyball court this Fall! The evening takes place in the Harwood gym\, kids can be dropped off at the Harwood main entrance. Cost is $30 per child ($20 for each additional sibling) and includes volleyball lessons and games\, arts and crafts\, snacks and a pizza dinner. \nEvery child who attend Kids’ Night Out will be entered into a drawing to receive a $50 gift card to The Collection. We are so grateful to The Collection for this wonderful donation. \n(Please note: There is also a CBMS and HUMS dance that night too!)

SUMMARY:Memory Tree Lighting Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The Mad River Valley Memory Tree provides a way for community members to remember and honor a loved one\, event\, or anything close to your hearts and support a great cause too. At the tree lighting ceremony the bulb dedications are read. Each light dedication costs $5 with donations matched by the Winthrop H. Smith Jr. Family Foundation. All funds raised from the Memory Tree initiative are donated to the stewardMRV program that works to steward the MRV’s outdoor recreational access point. \nThe Mad River Valley Memory Tree has long been a highlight to the annual illumination of the valley. It began as a fundraising project of the Mad River Valley Lions Club back in the 1970’s. \nThe original concept was borrowed from the Saint Johnsbury Lions Club. Each year they would hold a tree lighting ceremony on a Friday in December just after dark where they would read the names of those who bought bulbs and for whom. After the Lions Club disbanded the Memory Tree tradition went away until Joan Wilson\, John Gallagher and Nancy and Jess Mobley revived the idea in 2013. DESCRIPTION:Safety is always the top priority for Mad River Valley businesses—and for good reason. Business owners care deeply about the well-being of their guests\, employees\, and neighbors. At the same time\, understanding and navigating fire and life safety rules can be challenging. Codes are complex\, interpretations can vary\, and it’s not always clear what is required\, what is recommended\, and how best to plan for compliance in a way that is both safe and sustainable. \nIn an effort to “clear up the smoke\,” the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Fire & Life Safety Roundtable on: \n📅 Wednesday\, January 7🕞 3:30–5:00 pm📍 Yestermorrow Design/Build School Campus \nThis roundtable is designed to create an open\, respectful\, and informative conversation between business owners and state public safety officials—focused on clarity\, consistency\, and shared goals. \nFeatured Speakers\nThe discussion will feature: \n\n\nLandon A.
