SUMMARY:Stowe Jewish Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Hava Nagila The Movie:\n\nHava Nagilais instantly recognizable – musical shorthand for anything Jewish\, a happy party tune that you dance to at weddings\, bar mitzvahs and even at Major League Baseball games. It conjures up wistful smiles\, memories of generations past…and no shortage of eye rolling. But as audiences will discover in Hava Nagila (The Movie)\, the song is much more than a tale of Jewish kitsch and bad bar mitzvah fashions. It carries with it an entire constellation of history\, values and hopes for the future. In its own believe-it-or-not way\, Hava Nagila encapsulates the Jewish journey over the past 150 years. It also reveals the power of one song to express and sustain identity\, to transmit lessons across generations and to bridge cultural divides and connect us all on a universal level. Featuring interviews with Harry Belafonte\, Connie Francis\, Glen Campbell\, Leonard Nimoy\, Regina Spektor and more\, Hava Nagila (The Movie) follows the song from the shtetls of Eastern Europe to the kibbutzim of Palestine to the cul-de-sacs of America.\n\n \nJCOGS is hosting the film and a dance party in the tent under the stars with the JCOGS band\, dance instruction and Israeli inspired desserts. There are season patron tickets available on the JCOGS website as well as individual tickets. Or you can pay at the door. Check out all our  summer events at www.jcogs\,org

SUMMARY:Home Design/Build
DESCRIPTION:This course has been offered since 1980 and is the heart of our curriculum. It is appropriate for a range of individuals\, from the person who wants to “do it all” to the person who simply wants to be informed enough to have meaningful and productive conversations with his or her architect and builder. Students will learn through hands-on construction projects\, studio sessions\, lectures\, slide shows\, house tours\, and discussion. The Home Design/Build Course will provide individuals with the fundamental skills and resources necessary for creating their dream home – be it new construction or renovation. This course is also a good introduction for those interested in pursuing an architecture or building career. At the end of this intensive course\, students typically leave with schematic floor plans\, a scale model\, and section and elevation drawings. They have gained a new awareness of design\, materials\, and the process of realizing a home that reflects their values and lifestyle.

SUMMARY:Design/Build for Public Spaces
DESCRIPTION:You will engage in the hands-on process of designing and building a full-scale community project alongside a nonprofit partner or local community member. Class kicks off with a client meeting where students address a structural need. From there\, the  team will work within a budget\, propose and develop a design\, schedule the work\, and ultimately build the structure throughout the duration of this two-week class. \nA flagship Yestermorrow course that has yielded whimsical structures like the infamous Snail bus stop structure\, a mobile farm stand for Shelburne Farms\, and a trail shelter for the Mad River Path and more. Students are given the creative freedom to design a project that meets the unique needs of their client. As a result\, this course often produces unique and whimsical structures – a building style that Yestermorrow is known for. \nThis year\, we will be building a structure for the new Warren Dog Park. Make your mark on the community\, and provide shelter for your neighbors for years to come.
