SUMMARY:Design/Build for Public Spaces
DESCRIPTION:You will engage in the hands-on process of designing and building a full-scale community project alongside a nonprofit partner or local community member. Class kicks off with a client meeting where students address a structural need. From there\, the  team will work within a budget\, propose and develop a design\, schedule the work\, and ultimately build the structure throughout the duration of this two-week class. \nA flagship Yestermorrow course that has yielded whimsical structures like the infamous Snail bus stop structure\, a mobile farm stand for Shelburne Farms\, and a trail shelter for the Mad River Path and more. Students are given the creative freedom to design a project that meets the unique needs of their client. As a result\, this course often produces unique and whimsical structures – a building style that Yestermorrow is known for. \nThis year\, we will be building a structure for the new Warren Dog Park. Make your mark on the community\, and provide shelter for your neighbors for years to come.

DESCRIPTION:The Allen Clark Memorial Hill Climb — the annual grunt-fest that has fast become a rite of cycling passage in the Mad River Valley — is a grueling time trial that rises 1\,600 vertical feet in 6.2 miles\, from the intersection of Routes 100 and 17 to the top of Appalachian Gap. \nDetails:\nStart — 10 AM\, Stark Mountain Bike Works\, Route 100 & Route 17\, Waitsfield\, VT\nFinish — Top of Appalachian Gap \n\nLength: 6.2 miles\nVertical climb: 1\,600 feet\nRace format: Time trial\, 30-second intervals\n8 age categories\, from 15 and under to 70 and over.\nRegistration fees: Adults – $50\, Kids – $30\, $10 surcharge per entry for race day registration.\n\nBest Times — Medals awarded to the top three men and women in age categories. Post-race shwag raffle. \nNew Records — A special prize of $100 cash will be awarded to any man or woman who can set a new course record. Students will learn through hands-on construction projects\, studio sessions\, lectures\, slide shows\, house tours\, and discussion. The Home Design/Build Course will provide individuals with the fundamental skills and resources necessary for creating their dream home – be it new construction or renovation. This course is also a good introduction for those interested in pursuing an architecture or building career. At the end of this intensive course\, students typically leave with schematic floor plans\, a scale model\, and section and elevation drawings. They have gained a new awareness of design\, materials\, and the process of realizing a home that reflects their values and lifestyle.

SUMMARY:Home Design/Build
DESCRIPTION:This course has been offered since 1980 and is the heart of our curriculum. It is appropriate for a range of individuals\, from the person who wants to “do it all” to the person who simply wants to be informed enough to have meaningful and productive conversations with his or her architect and builder. Students will learn through hands-on construction projects\, studio sessions\, lectures\, slide shows\, house tours\, and discussion. The Home Design/Build Course will provide individuals with the fundamental skills and resources necessary for creating their dream home – be it new construction or renovation. This course is also a good introduction for those interested in pursuing an architecture or building career. At the end of this intensive course\, students typically leave with schematic floor plans\, a scale model\, and section and elevation drawings. They have gained a new awareness of design\, materials\, and the process of realizing a home that reflects their values and lifestyle.

SUMMARY:Design/Build for Public Spaces
DESCRIPTION:You will engage in the hands-on process of designing and building a full-scale community project alongside a nonprofit partner or local community member. Class kicks off with a client meeting where students address a structural need. From there\, the  team will work within a budget\, propose and develop a design\, schedule the work\, and ultimately build the structure throughout the duration of this two-week class. \nA flagship Yestermorrow course that has yielded whimsical structures like the infamous Snail bus stop structure\, a mobile farm stand for Shelburne Farms\, and a trail shelter for the Mad River Path and more. Students are given the creative freedom to design a project that meets the unique needs of their client. As a result\, this course often produces unique and whimsical structures – a building style that Yestermorrow is known for. \nThis year\, we will be building a structure for the new Warren Dog Park. Make your mark on the community\, and provide shelter for your neighbors for years to come.
