SUMMARY:Home Design/Build
DESCRIPTION:This course has been offered since 1980 and is the heart of our curriculum. It is appropriate for a range of individuals\, from the person who wants to “do it all” to the person who simply wants to be informed enough to have meaningful and productive conversations with his or her architect and builder. Students will learn through hands-on construction projects\, studio sessions\, lectures\, slide shows\, house tours\, and discussion. The Home Design/Build Course will provide individuals with the fundamental skills and resources necessary for creating their dream home – be it new construction or renovation. This course is also a good introduction for those interested in pursuing an architecture or building career. At the end of this intensive course\, students typically leave with schematic floor plans\, a scale model\, and section and elevation drawings. They have gained a new awareness of design\, materials\, and the process of realizing a home that reflects their values and lifestyle.

DESCRIPTION:You will engage in the hands-on process of designing and building a full-scale community project alongside a nonprofit partner or local community member. Class kicks off with a client meeting where students address a structural need. From there\, the  team will work within a budget\, propose and develop a design\, schedule the work\, and ultimately build the structure throughout the duration of this two-week class. \nA flagship Yestermorrow course that has yielded whimsical structures like the infamous Snail bus stop structure\, a mobile farm stand for Shelburne Farms\, and a trail shelter for the Mad River Path and more. Students are given the creative freedom to design a project that meets the unique needs of their client. As a result\, this course often produces unique and whimsical structures – a building style that Yestermorrow is known for. \nThis year\, we will be building a structure for the new Warren Dog Park. Make your mark on the community\, and provide shelter for your neighbors for years to come.

In the afternoon\, participants explore the forest through play\, fort building and of course spend ample time splashing in the Mad River and Dowsville Creek. Preschoolers will be welcome this week. DESCRIPTION:It’s time for the MRV Great Amazing Bear Story Contest! \nThe Mad River Valley Bear Initiative invites you to submit your black bear stories from 2023! Share your story and you might be eligible to win a cool prize! The MRV Bear Initiative is a working group represented by conservation organizations in Duxbury\, Fayston\, Moretown\, Waitsfield and Warren\, Friends of the Mad River\, the Stark Mountain Foundation\, and Sugarbush. Their goal is to collectively improve how we coexist with our calorie-seeking\, black bear friends. \nWith near record bear counts this year it’s no wonder there are so many bear sightings in the Mad River Valley. The VT Fish & Wildlife Department estimates 7\,000-8\,500 bears statewide\, a 5 year high with an estimated 2\,000 more animals than just a few years ago. As bears seek and compete for new territories to call their own\, we find more bears popping up all over our community. It’s the perfect opportunity to embrace living in bear country by sharing collective stories\, wildlife appreciations\, and tips & tricks for our peaceful coexistence! \nThe MRV Bear Initiative wants to hear your best bear stories from 2023 . Share with others and become eligible to win some cool prizes! \nDetails:\nCraft your story and submit it to the MRV Bear Initiative before Wednesday January 31st\, 2024. Your story only needs to be long enough to capture our attention. Submit any or multiple formats of recorded media – an essay\, pictures\, drawings\, a link to a video\, a poem\, a diorama\, etc. Choose the format that best fits your story. Selected stories will be shared with the community as educational and inspirational opportunities for all of us to enjoy. \nAre you a resident of the Valley?\nWould you like to win a bear resistant trash can? DESCRIPTION:This course has been offered since 1980 and is the heart of our curriculum. It is appropriate for a range of individuals\, from the person who wants to “do it all” to the person who simply wants to be informed enough to have meaningful and productive conversations with his or her architect and builder. Students will learn through hands-on construction projects\, studio sessions\, lectures\, slide shows\, house tours\, and discussion. The Home Design/Build Course will provide individuals with the fundamental skills and resources necessary for creating their dream home – be it new construction or renovation. This course is also a good introduction for those interested in pursuing an architecture or building career. At the end of this intensive course\, students typically leave with schematic floor plans\, a scale model\, and section and elevation drawings. They have gained a new awareness of design\, materials\, and the process of realizing a home that reflects their values and lifestyle.

DESCRIPTION:You will engage in the hands-on process of designing and building a full-scale community project alongside a nonprofit partner or local community member. Class kicks off with a client meeting where students address a structural need. From there\, the  team will work within a budget\, propose and develop a design\, schedule the work\, and ultimately build the structure throughout the duration of this two-week class. \nA flagship Yestermorrow course that has yielded whimsical structures like the infamous Snail bus stop structure\, a mobile farm stand for Shelburne Farms\, and a trail shelter for the Mad River Path and more. Students are given the creative freedom to design a project that meets the unique needs of their client. As a result\, this course often produces unique and whimsical structures – a building style that Yestermorrow is known for. \nThis year\, we will be building a structure for the new Warren Dog Park. Make your mark on the community\, and provide shelter for your neighbors for years to come.

SUMMARY:Farm and River Camps (Preschool too!)
DESCRIPTION:Living Tree Alliance’s camps immerse children in the life of the homestead\, rivers and forests through farming\, cooking\, nature crafts\, swimming\, and forest and field games. In the afternoon\, participants explore the forest through play\, fort building and of course spend ample time splashing in the Mad River and Dowsville Creek. Preschoolers will be welcome this week. Please inquire about paying per diem if a child can not attend for the week.

SUMMARY:Home Design/Build
DESCRIPTION:This course has been offered since 1980 and is the heart of our curriculum. It is appropriate for a range of individuals\, from the person who wants to “do it all” to the person who simply wants to be informed enough to have meaningful and productive conversations with his or her architect and builder. Students will learn through hands-on construction projects\, studio sessions\, lectures\, slide shows\, house tours\, and discussion. The Home Design/Build Course will provide individuals with the fundamental skills and resources necessary for creating their dream home – be it new construction or renovation. This course is also a good introduction for those interested in pursuing an architecture or building career. At the end of this intensive course\, students typically leave with schematic floor plans\, a scale model\, and section and elevation drawings. They have gained a new awareness of design\, materials\, and the process of realizing a home that reflects their values and lifestyle.
