SUMMARY:Apple Tree Pruning Workshop at Boyce Hill Town Forest
DESCRIPTION:Learn How to Prune Fruit Trees While Helping Us Steward the Town Forest\nMarch 10\, 1-3 pm \nBoyce Hill Town Forest includes the remnants of an old apple orchard that needs some attention. As this is the best time of year to prune apple trees\, the Fayston Conservation Commission has invited local landscape architect\, Rachel Grigorian of Clark Brook designs LLC to lead a 90-minute pruning class for a group of supporters on Sunday\, March 10th at 1:00 PM. Participants will learn how to care for trees to maximize their fruit production and health while helping the town with this important stewardship project. While we work\, participants can also learn about the property and the long-term management of this unique 93-acre tract of land that features expansive views of both the Green Mountains and the Northfield Range. At the end of the workshop\, participants will be emailed a PDF summary of the methods learned. \nParticipants should bring any pruning tools they have\, such as loppers\, and small pull saws or folding saws\, as limited loaner tools will be available. A suggested donation of $40 per person will help support the property and its ongoing stewardship needs. \nBoyce Hill Town Forest is located at the top of Boyce Road in N. Fayston. DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for Saturday\, March 30th – rain\, shine (probably snow)\, it’s time for the annual Mad River Valley Easter Egg Hunt. Once again\, the event will take place at the Mad River Park located at 236 Airport Road in Waitsfield due to parking constraints at Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom (WCVT) where the event has historically been held. The egg hunt will start promptly at 10:00 a.m. Refreshments will be served under the pavilion starting at 9:30 a.m. The egg hunt is open to children of all ages and is free of charge. \nWCVT is very excited to be partnering once again with the Mad River Valley Recreation District and thankful for the use of their fields. A reminder of the important Mad River Park rules for attendees: no dogs\, pack-in-pack-out all trash\, parking in the parking lot only or in designated areas per parking attendants at events. DESCRIPTION:An OPEN BARN event to support artists participating in a residency this summer \nDon’t miss seeing the upcoming full-occlusion solar eclipse! The Mad River Valley will be in the perfect path for viewing this celestial event\, and Stowell Barn is surrounded by a beautiful unobstructed vista that can’t be beat. Eclipse photographers looking for where to set up? Look no further! \nCome check out our recently-restored historic space and enjoy some light snacks\, good company\, games\, a celestially-themed playlist\, and a collaborative dance composition demo following the eclipse (no dance experience needed to participate). All are welcome! \nThis event is open to the public\, and will be ‘contribute what you can’ at the door/online. All contributions* will directly support dancers and choreographers participating in the CHIMERA Art Co-Lab hosted by Farmsprung Gatherings in July\, 2024. \nWe are opening the barn doors early this year for this special event: keep in mind that this is Vermont in early April\, and the barn is technically 3 season so it may be CHILLY! We have a patio heater for hand warming and are planning for some warm beverages\, but check the weather and dress accordingly. \nLimited parking on site on the grass\, with additional public parking at Common Road. \nRemember you shouldn’t look directly at the eclipse—bring protective eye-wear! We will have limited eclipse shades available. \n*Please note that financial contributions—although directly benefiting artists—are not tax deductible. \nA note re: accessibility–if you have specific needs please alert us ahead of time and we will do everything we can to accommodate you! We have portable ramps to make our barn space and dance floor accessible\, but the space is surrounded by grass which can be challenging for wheelchairs.

DESCRIPTION:Drag Story Hour (DSH) is just what it sounds like… \n…drag performers reading stories to children in libraries\, schools\, and bookstores. DSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous\, positive\, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this\, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish\, where dress up is real. \nEmoji Nightmare and Katniss Everqueer\, two of Vermont’s favorite queer performing artists\, will be sure to delight and captivate audience members of all ages as they share stories focused on individuality\, activism\, gender\, creativity\, expression\, and social responsibility. \nDSH was created by Michelle Tea and RADAR Productions in San Francisco in 2015. The Vermont Chapter of DSH was created by Emoji Nightmare and Nikki Champagne in 2017. In 2021\, Emoji joined the national board of directors for DSH.
