DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next Community Socrates Café\nJanuary 9th from 5:00 to 6:30 PM\nDiscussion Question: How do we “live now” while still respecting the past? \nStudents from Harwood’s Harkness Leadership class will be hosting a community Socrates Café on Thursday\, January 9th from 5:00 to 6:30 PM in the HU library. A Socrates Café is an opportunity for dialogue about timeless and timely questions that all human beings deal with. Rather than being a debate or a discussion\, a Socrates Café is a dialogue where participants are encouraged to listen to and learn from one another. \nThis form of discourse- and its focus on the search for knowledge- comes from the great philosopher Socrates\, who observed that “Wisdom Begins in Wonder.” These gatherings are open to all community members\, regardless of age\, experience\, or background. Harwood students who are experienced in leading Socratic Dialogues will facilitate the discussions. \nCommunity members of all ages are invited\, and refreshments will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Concerts for a Cause is excited to start 2025 with a concert on Wednesday\, January 15 at 7 pm featuring Doug Shick. The concert is free but donations are welcomed to support the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service (MRVAS). \nDoug lives in Warren and performs regularly at the Hancock Hotel and other local venues. As a member of the Woodstock generation himself\, he has developed an authentic and eclectic “boomer-friendly” repertoire with appeal for all ages featuring songs from the 1920s to the 2020s. Doug is a former member of MRVAS\, having served as an EMT for 9 years. He’s excited to share his musical talents to benefit the valuable services that MRVAS provides to our community. \nPlease join us on January 15\, 7 pm\, at Warren United Church to hear some great music and support our local ambulance service. \nConcerts for a Cause is an ongoing concert series that aims to bring music to the community while supporting local Vermont charities. Warren United Church has graciously donated the space for these concerts. The featured musician for each concert selects the Vermont-based charity they would like their concert to benefit. The process involves eliminating any reference to real-world objects or situations and to focus only on the inherent structures and relationships. \nThe Cold Hollow Sculpture Park\, in Enosburg Falls\, has over 70 large abstract sculptures by renowned artist David Stromeyer. The photographs of Lisa\, Julie and Sandra\nare inventive abstractions from David’s sculpture. They utilize an in-camera multiple exposure technique to explore the intricate relationship between color\, texture\, movement\, line and form.
