DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first talk in our Spring 2025 Speaker Series: Innovative Homes! Each talk takes place in the Yestermorrow main studio. Free and open to the public. \nNet-Zero Retrofit and High Performance Expansion of a 1782 Vermont Farmhouse with Brian Cali \nWhen 20 year old Revolutionary War veteran Moses Chaplin first built the timber frame structure that will be the topic of this talk\, achieving net-zero energy and reducing embodied carbon were most certainly not part of the planning. In the 2020s\, these goals were front and center during the work to retrofit the original house and expand to allow for single story living and meet other programming goals of the next stewards of this property. Owner Brian Cali will provide an overview of the journey to this project (spoiler alert: Yestermorrow played a key role!)\, the major design elements\, and the process of retrofitting the original building and strategies employed for the addition (which utilized off-site construction).
