SUMMARY:Climate and Ecology Film Discussion: Surviving the ’72 Flood
DESCRIPTION:🌿We’re excited to announce our partnership with the Mad River Valley Libraries on a monthly environmental-themed book club. For January\, in partnership with the Moretown Library\, we’re excited to mix things up and watch a documentary instead! 🌿 \nWe’ll be watching and discussing two documentaries: \nThe first tells the story of the 1972 Rapid City flood in South Dakota. We’ll hear firsthand from the town’s residents about their experience on the day of the flood and from the town officials on steps taken afterward to prevent future flood devastation. The second is closer to home and talks a bit about a similar preventative technique but at a much smaller scale being applied in Montpelier in the aftermath of the July 2023 flood. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Please register below if you’d like to attend and contact onome@friendsofthemadriver.org with questions. \nPlease note that the Moretown Memorial Library is located in the Town Hall.

DESCRIPTION:Central Vermont Martial Arts\, a Karate school offering classes on Wednesdays in Moretown\, is having an Open House on Sunday\, January 21\, 2024. \nThe event is  free\, and includes five free classes that anyone in the community is welcome to attend – even if you’ll never become a regular student. \n1045 – 1115: Young warriors aged 6-11 can experience martial arts in our specially tailored Trial Class for Kids. It’s a  blend of fun and discipline. \n1130 – 1230: Adults (12+)\, it’s your turn to step onto the mat. Our Adult Trial Class offers a way to dive into the art and discover your potential. \n1230 – 115: Join us for a Potluck Lunch. Meet current students\, ask questions\, and enjoy a variety of dishes brought by fellow attendees. \n115 – 145: Another chance for kids to shine in our Trial Class for Kids.  Kids are free to attend one or both. \n200 – 300: We’re back with a second Trial Class for Adults. Whether you’re here for round two or just joining\, all are welcome. \n315 – 445: Cap off the day with our Self-Defense Class for Adults (recommended for 16+). Learn practical skills to empower and protect yourself. \nArrive at least 5 minutes early for any classes you wish to join.
