SUMMARY:Bear Haiku Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate National Poetry Month with The MRV Libraries and MRV Bear Initiative! \nWe invite all in the community to contribute a bear-themed haiku for display at local businesses throughout April and May. People of all ages may submit their haiku about bears using this form: https://forms.gle/f17U5tWVMHtVqeoF7\nor by picking up a paper copy at any of the MRV Libraries. Submissions will be accepted until April 30. \nWhat are Haiku\, again?\nHaiku are a form of poetry originating in Japan. Each haiku contains seventeen syllables divided into three lines. The first and last line each contain five syllables while the second line contains seven syllables. Here’s a bear-themed haiku by Megan Sharkey of Alaska: \nGarbage on the porch\nis the best way to get a\nbear on short notice \nWe welcome submissions by children\, teens\, and adults. Everyone who submits a haiku may pick up a free MRV Bear Initiative magnet available at any MRV library. Let’s celebrate poetry\, community\, and bear awareness together! \nWhat is the Mad River Valley Bear Initiative?\nThe Mad River Valley Bear Initiative is a local volunteer group that raises awareness about the bears that live around us in the Valley. SUMMARY:Celestial Celebration:  Revisiting the Solar Eclipse in Story\, Song\, Poetry and Art
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is welcome to take part in revisiting last April’s solar eclipse with songs\, art\, poetry and stories. \nIndividuals who submitted work to the library a year ago will be on hand to share their stories\, poetry and art. The Songbird Project will add some musical flair to the event with a few songs about the sun and the moon. \nIf you have a piece of artwork you would like to share\, please bring it to the Joslin Memorial Library by Wednesday afternoon\, April 9th so we can display it on Friday evening;. And if you have a story or a poem you would like to share about last year’s solar eclipse\, the moon or the stars we invite you to bring it with you.. \nPlease register in advance at joslinmemoriallibrary.com under upcoming programs.
