DESCRIPTION:Come down to the river for a morning of family friendly exploration activities with Friends of the Mad River and Audubon Vermont. We’ll explore the connection between birds and rivers\, spending time learning about the habitat along rivers\, the birds that live there\, and the river creatures that they eat. We’ll have the chance to take a walk and look for birds\, flip rocks in the stream in search of bugs\, and take part in fun activities like a scavenger hunt and demonstrations of popular nature apps. \nThis event is free\, meant for all ages and welcomes families with children! Come with a curious mind\, waterproof boots if you would like to wade in the river\, and binoculars if you have them. \nRegistration is required for this event. DESCRIPTION:Waitsfield\, VT — The Stark Mountain Foundation is excited to announce a new series of free\, family-friendly naturalist hikes on Stark Mountain\, led by Vermont Master Naturalist Gene O. Desideraggio. These guided hikes offer a unique opportunity to explore the mountain’s diverse ecosystems throughout the changing seasons. \nFrom vibrant spring wildflowers to the brilliant colors of fall foliage\, participants will immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Green Mountains. Along the way\, Gene will help hikers discover signs of wildlife\, listen for bird calls echoing through the forest\, spot animal tracks on the trail\, or even find a well-worn bear tree. \nThe hikes will take place from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on the last Saturday of every month:\nMay 31\, June 28\, July 26\, August 30\, September 27\, and October 25 \nAfter each hike\, participants are invited to unwind at the Mad River Glen Stark’s Pub\, where they can grab a bite or a drink and enjoy the stunning mountain views. \nThe hikes are free\, but registration is required and space is limited. \nTo register or learn more\, visit:\nbit.ly/NatureHikes2025

DESCRIPTION:Riparian buffers and upland forests provide valuable habitat for a wide variety of birds as well as playing a crucial role in protecting water quality and river health. Restoration projects are a meaningful way that landowners can improve their riverside and forest habitat. \nDuring this workshop\, we will tour a private property that was planted with 1\,200 trees last year as part of ongoing riparian restoration efforts. As we walk and talk\, we will explore the connection between river dynamics\, land management\, bird habitat\, and restoration work. This event is perfect for landowners or land managers interested in learning more about caring for their land\, especially in the context of bird habitat and river systems. \nWe will hear expertise and insights from:\nIra Shadis – Executive Director\, Friends of the Mad River\nMark LaBarr – Conservation Program Manager\, Audubon Vermont\nMacie Broussard – Senior Conservation Associate\, Audubon Vermont \nThere is a limited number of spots available for this workshop\, so please register ahead of time.
