DESCRIPTION:Mad River Valley STEM Festival Brings Hands-On\nScience Fun to Local Families\nInteractive ECHO Science Exhibits Come to Big Picture Community Hub for the Arts This October \nMad River Valley\, VT – The Mad River Valley community is invited to explore the exciting world\nof science\, technology\, engineering\, and math at the inaugural Mad River Valley STEM Festival\non Saturday\, October 4\, 2025\, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Big Picture Community Hub for the Arts.\nHosted in partnership with the ECHO Leahy Center for Lake Champlain\, this free community\nevent will transform the Red Theater and outdoor spaces (weather permitting) into an interactive\nscience playground featuring hands-on activities designed to inspire families and spark curiosity\nabout the natural world.\nSTEM Festivals create joyful shared experiences that strengthen our community while building\nexcitement about science and learning\, said event organizer Frankie Burg. We are thrilled to\nbring ECHOs renowned interactive exhibits directly to Mad River Valley families.\nFestival Highlights Include:\nGuided Activities with ECHO Educators:\n● Air Rockets – Design paper rockets and explore the forces of flight with air-pressure\npowered launchers (outdoor launch zone)\n● LEGO Gravity Racers – Build custom weighted race cars and test them on a 32-foot\ntrack while learning about forces and center of gravity\nSelf-Guided Exploration Stations:\n● Rigamajig – Collaborative large-scale building with wooden planks\, gears\, and loose\nparts\n● Big Blue Blocks – Imagination Playgrounds oversized building system encouraging\ngroup play\n● Wind Wall – Send balls and materials through a maze of clear tubes\n● Vertical Flyer – Experiment with objects flying in custom wind tubes\n● Bike Generator – Pedal to create electrical energy that powers inflatable characters\n● Circuit Blocks – Design and test electrical circuits with lights\, buzzers\, and motors\n● Spin Chairs – Experience physics through safe\, fun movement\n● Quiet Corner – Sensory-friendly space with books\, coloring\, and calming activities \nThe festival welcomes all ages\, with activities specifically designed for preschoolers through\nadults. Families can complete a Passport book upon entry\, collecting stamps at each activity\nstation.\nThe Mad River Valley STEM Festival is made possible by founding members of the Big Picture\nCommunity Hub for the Arts.

SUMMARY:Allen Clark Hill Climb
DESCRIPTION:Sunday October 5\, 2025\nThe Allen Clark Memorial Hill Climb — the annual grunt-fest that has fast become a rite of cycling passage in the Mad River Valley — is a grueling time trial that rises 1\,600 vertical feet in 6.2 miles\, from the intersection of Routes 100 and 17 to the top of Appalachian Gap. \nThe event is named in honor of long-time Mad River Valley resident\, Allen Clark. An avid cyclist who took up biking late in life\, he rode 2\,500-3\,000 annually in Vermont. Allen especially loved the challenge of the Appalachian Gap. This event is a tribute to Allen’s life and a fundraiser for Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports\, an organization that meant a great deal to him. \nThe cost to register is $50 for adults and $30 for kids. \nBikers are encouraged to pre-register in advance of the event by clicking here \nRace-day registration will take place from 8:30-9:30AM in front of Stark Mountain Bike Works.
