DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next meeting of the Mad River Valley Women in Business group. We’ll be meeting on Tuesday\, October 17th beginning at 5:30 pm at the Deco Bar at Hostel Tevere in Warren. Carrie McDonnell from One Day in July will be the special guest speaker. She plans to speak to financial issues pertinent to women and women-owned businesses specifically. \nCarrie McDonnell is a fiduciary financial advisor based in Central Vermont.  She works for the independent Vermont-based firm\, One Day In July.  A former school administrator and small business owner\, Carrie welcomes the opportunity to educate and empower individuals and businesses to be knowledgeable and savvy investors.  She believes investing should reflect who you are and what you value. Carrie loves living and working in rural Vermont\, where there is so much opportunity to play a part in shaping the local culture and community.  In particular\, she enjoys helping small business owners develop and implement financial plans for retirement and short term goals\, directly impacting a business’s success and sustainability. \nOn Tuesday\, Carrie will cover the following topics: \n\n\nTypes of employer sponsored retirement plans and the characteristics of each \n\n\nEffective investment strategies for optimizing returns and reducing tax liability \n\n\nThe importance of diversifying assets \n\n\nHow to avoid high fees & common investor mistakes \n\n\nThe Mad River Valley Women in Business group is a network of women business leaders in our community who have come together to unite\, support\, connect and grow. The group began in 2021 as we were in the midst of big changes within our local economy. There was a surge of new  businesses starting\, an influx of people moving into the community exacerbating an already difficult housing market\, existing establishments  were turning over and chamber membership  was growing.  Much of this change is being driven by women in our community.  There is a strong desire  within the MRV Chamber ‘s leadership to develop and support a vehicle for women to work together to support one another\, access information and resources\, achieve business goals and promote the greater good in the MRV. We strongly encourage you to attend our next meeting. \nThose interested in joining the group are encouraged to connect with leadership and join in.

DESCRIPTION:This course has been offered since 1980 and is the heart of our curriculum. It is appropriate for a range of individuals\, from the person who wants to “do it all” to the person who simply wants to be informed enough to have meaningful and productive conversations with his or her architect and builder. The Home Design/Build Course will provide individuals with the fundamental skills and resources necessary for creating their dream home – be it new construction or renovation. This course is also a good introduction for those interested in pursuing an architecture or building career. At the end of this intensive course\, students typically leave with schematic floor plans\, a scale model\, and section and elevation drawings. DESCRIPTION:You will engage in the hands-on process of designing and building a full-scale community project alongside a nonprofit partner or local community member. Class kicks off with a client meeting where students address a structural need. From there\, the  team will work within a budget\, propose and develop a design\, schedule the work\, and ultimately build the structure throughout the duration of this two-week class. \nA flagship Yestermorrow course that has yielded whimsical structures like the infamous Snail bus stop structure\, a mobile farm stand for Shelburne Farms\, and a trail shelter for the Mad River Path and more. Students are given the creative freedom to design a project that meets the unique needs of their client. As a result\, this course often produces unique and whimsical structures – a building style that Yestermorrow is known for. \nThis year\, we will be building a structure for the new Warren Dog Park. Make your mark on the community\, and provide shelter for your neighbors for years to come.

The Home Design/Build Course will provide individuals with the fundamental skills and resources necessary for creating their dream home – be it new construction or renovation. This course is also a good introduction for those interested in pursuing an architecture or building career. At the end of this intensive course\, students typically leave with schematic floor plans\, a scale model\, and section and elevation drawings. They have gained a new awareness of design\, materials\, and the process of realizing a home that reflects their values and lifestyle.

DESCRIPTION:You will engage in the hands-on process of designing and building a full-scale community project alongside a nonprofit partner or local community member. Class kicks off with a client meeting where students address a structural need. From there\, the  team will work within a budget\, propose and develop a design\, schedule the work\, and ultimately build the structure throughout the duration of this two-week class. \nA flagship Yestermorrow course that has yielded whimsical structures like the infamous Snail bus stop structure\, a mobile farm stand for Shelburne Farms\, and a trail shelter for the Mad River Path and more. Students are given the creative freedom to design a project that meets the unique needs of their client. As a result\, this course often produces unique and whimsical structures – a building style that Yestermorrow is known for. \nThis year\, we will be building a structure for the new Warren Dog Park. Make your mark on the community\, and provide shelter for your neighbors for years to come.

This is the first in a series of monthly outdoor adventures that focuses on how our watershed and ecosystem are changing as a result of our changing climate. \nBring shoes or boots for hiking moderate trails\, clothing appropriate for the weather\, water bottle and snacks.
