DESCRIPTION:Bread & Puppet will host our traditional Museum Open House Sunday\, June 2nd at 2 p.m. As always\, this celebratory afternoon of performances\, bread\, and museum appreciation will mark the beginning of a bustling summer season at the Bread & Puppet farm. \nThe Open House will begin at the entrance of our Museum\, where local singers will gather to sing songs in the “Shape Note” tradition\, an early American sacred singing tradition with deep roots in Vermont\, in four-part harmony. Next\, the Museum will receive its ceremonial opening for the season: the museum guard will be woken up and reinstalled at his post for the summer. The public will be invited to peruse the museum.\nIn keeping with tradition\, the middle of the afternoon will feature performances by B&P friends and guests with original music and short puppet shows at locations around the B&P farm. \nThe afternoon will conclude with The Whole Kit and Caboodle Show! \n“We the Whole Kit & Caboodle bread bakers\, peace and harmony terrorists\, and criminal trespassers of the fascist empire offer anti-hospital bombing calisthenics in the face of the Freedom and Democracy Bullshitters\, and precise funeral rites for the collapsing Western Civilization and make our divine papermaché weaponry as retrieved from the cardboard industry’s available refuse to defeat the capitalist hegemony and celebrate a brand-new humanity with appropriate victory dances and demonstrate our birthright as children of the one and only Mother Dirt who makes us and unmakes us and now requires our full undivided attention.” -Peter Schumann \nAfter the show Bread & Puppet will serve its famous sourdough rye bread with aioli\, and Bread & Puppet’s “Cheap Art” – books\, posters\, postcards\, pamphlets and banners from the Bread & Puppet Press – will be for sale. \nTickets for the Summer 2024 shows are $10 each. Kelley\, the Freedom Dreaming Creation workshop provides space to explore our relationships to the idea of freedom. Through conversation\, activity\, and artistic creation\, we imagine environments that can exist beyond our current realities. For freedom dreaming\, all you need is love and your imagination. The workshop is led by Interdisciplinary Artivist\, Educator\, and Warren resident janet e. dandridge. \nThe workshop is best suited for ages 14-adult; however\, families with children as young as 8 may participate together. Pre- registration is required as spaces may be limited. Weather permitting\, the workshop will be held outdoors.

The Whole Kit and Caboodle Show runs Sundays June 9th-July 7th at 3 p.m. in the Papier Maché Cathedral at the Bread and Puppet farm\, 753 Heights Rd\, Glover\, VT. \nAbout this show Peter Schumann says\, “We\, the Whole Kit & Caboodle bread bakers\, peace and harmony terrorists and criminal trespassers of the fascist empire offer anti-hospital-bombing calisthenics in the face of the Freedom and Democracy Bullshitters\, and precise funeral rites for the collapsing Western Civilization and make our divine paper maché weaponry\, as retrieved from the cardboard industry’s available refuse to defeat the capitalist hegemony and celebrate a brand-new humanity with appropriate victory dances and demonstrate our birthright as children of the one and only Mother Dirt\, who makes us and unmakes us and now requires our full undivided attention.” \nBread and Puppet’s Cheap Art – books\, posters\, postcards\, pamphlets and banners from the Bread and Puppet Press – will be for sale in the Bread & Puppet Museum Store throughout the event. \nTickets for this and other summer shows are $10 each. Each library will host a different event on this day. \nThe Warren Library will host a discussion of the book “On Juneteenth” by Dr. Annette Gordon-Reed. Part history and part memoir\, On Juneteenth demonstrates the significance of the holiday to the author and to the nation in a slim\, readable 128 pages. Copies of the book are available to check out and read in advance. Weather permitting\, the discussion will be held outside on the library lawn with snacks and drinks.
