DESCRIPTION:Skiers and riders will meet at either Sugarbush or Mad River Glen in the wee hours of the morning to rise and rip! Exact time and location will be TBD each week based on conditions. All participants must read and adhere to the uphill policies: Sugarbush and Mad River Glen. All participants will be required to complete a waiver through MRVBC for each Thursday. Grief can often feel very solitary\, but sharing our stories of sorrow with others helps bring light to the darkness. In the Sorrows & Sunshine workshop\, Rachel will guide participants through an explorative writing exercise designed to shine a warm light on our sorrows\, followed by optional story-telling. \nAbout Rachel\nRachel’s own apprenticeship to grief began in Feb 2020 when her father was diagnosed with ALS. During his dying process\, she started talking – and writing – about her experience navigating his disease and death (Where The Love Lies). DESCRIPTION:Friday\, April 26 5-6 pm\nMad River Valley Arts\, 5031 Main St\, Waitsfield \nJoin Evan Premo (multi-instrumentalist/composer and Scrag Mountain Music co-Artistic Director) and Mikahely (Burlington-based singer-songwriter instrumentalist originally from Madagascar) as they improvise on instruments made of trees. Evan and Mikahely will musically explore what trees can teach us about who we are as spiritual beings\, and Mikahely will speak about the importance of trees in Madagasy spiritual practice. Evan’s Spiritual Soundings feature improvised loop-based ambient music presented with an intentional theme. The community is invited to participate using any spiritual modality — meditation\, prayer\, deep listening\, movement etc — while holding the intention of the session’s theme. The hope is that this music and these gatherings will facilitate deep meditative experience which connects audiences to one another and all consciousness. \nSpace is limited and there are a limited number of chairs available. They are coordinating their efforts under the banner of the Mad River Valley Green Valley Rally. \nVermont’s annual Green Up Day takes place on Saturday\,May 4\, 2024 with the Green Valley Rally being the epicenter for all activities here in the MRV. It will take place at the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center (at the corner of Routes 100 and 17) from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. People can stop by to pick up Green Up bags\, morning snacks\, and roadside assignments. People will also have the chance to learn more about volunteer opportunities with the Friends of the Mad River\, stewardMRV\, and Valley knotweed eradication programs. \nEvent Timeline \n\n8 – 10 am             Bag Pick-up & Breakfast Treats\n8 am -2 pm         Can and Bottle Drop Off (see deets below)\nNoon to 2 pm    MRV Steward Organizations Volunteer Job Fair|\nNoon to 2 pm     BBQ for Green Up Day Volunteers\nBag Drop Offs     Bring Your Green Bags to Earthwise Santiation’s Waitsfield Transfer Station. During that time there will also be a stewardMRV volunteer job fair. People can learn more about other conservation and stewardship opportunities. SUMMARY:Tuesday Tunes: Bloodroot Gap
DESCRIPTION:Formed after a serendipitous jam session at a Vermont bluegrass festival\, Bloodroot Gap is a musical collaboration between brothers Rob and Jim McCuen (Swing Noire)\, Freeman Corey (Catamount Crossing\, Big Spike Bluegrass) and Jake Munson. \nCorey\, a fiddle player who grew up on a dairy farm in Benson\, is the son of a fine\, old-time fiddler. He started playing at age 10\, learning hundreds of Irish\, Scottish and French-Canadian fiddle tunes from his father. Corey has become one of Vermont’s most sought-after traditional fiddlers\, gracing the stage with Bob Amos and Catamount Crossing\, Big Spike Bluegrass\, The Haymakers and Spare Parts among countless other notable groups and musicians. \nThe McCuen Brothers have been performing side-by-side for nearly 30 years\, founding the bands Wiley Dobbs\, Acoustic Undermind\, and Swing Noire\, and sharing the stage with the likes of Frank Vignola\, Jamie Masefield\, Charlie Hunter and Doug Perkins. The brothers provide tight vocal harmonies and rhythmic accompaniment\, as only twins can. Rob dazzles audiences with his fluid solos on mandolin and guitar\, while Jim holds down the low end on upright bass.
