SUMMARY:Wild Pink
DESCRIPTION:WILD PINK is a group show about the natural and cultural relationship of the ancient color PINK. There is certainly no dearth of pink in the natural world or in human culture. We accessorize\, cosmeticize\, gender-ize and interiorize to the point of being ‘tickled pink’. In the animal and floral world pink as hue and shade exists multifold. Whether to shock\, protest or code the millennials\, pink has survived the test of time. This show examines the fluid origins of PINK in ‘natural’ and/or ‘cultural’ contexts. This is open media\, interdisciplinary\, multimedia\, installation\, all contemporary crafts and design arts in two/three dimensions for the wall and floor. \nReception & Artist talks: Sept. 26th\, 5-7pm

SUMMARY:OPEN GONG – Free Gong Bath
DESCRIPTION:Experience the Magic & Power of Four Gongs during a free gong bath on Friday afternoon\, September 20 — with me\, Gong Master Bridget Stone! \nThis is a free event that I call “OPEN GONG.” The gong is for everyone\, and it doesn’t always have to be experienced in the formal setting of a sound healing event! \nTime: I start playing at 5pm and will stop at 6:30pm. You may arrive and depart freely and at any time!\nLocation: The Lareau Park/Swimming Hole on Route 100 in Waitsfield\nSuggestions: Wear comfortable and warm clothing\, bring a yoga mat\, eye covering\, blanket or chair to sit/lay on\nDonations are accepted if the exchange of fiat money for time and expertise resonates with you. \nThe gong is the guardian of the seed sound of the Universe — OM. One of the oldest instruments on the planet\, a masterfully played gong will lower brain wave activity and launch you into deep relaxation\, subconscious realms\, and sublime dreamstates. The benefits of a sound bath include: healing the physical and emotional bodies\, resetting the body’s electromagnetic field\, a decrease in stress and anxiety\, relief of physical ailments\, increased clarity and vision\, and more. \nMy Instagram: @la_gonghera

SUMMARY:Volunteer Mountain Work Day
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer Mountain Work Days will once again utilize pre-registration and limit the total group size. Space is extremely limited\, don’t wait\, register online! \nEvents will be confirmed by 6:00 pm the day prior via the contact email provided. A wait list will be maintained with open slots filled by 6:00 pm the day prior. \nAny minors that register must be at least 12 years of age\, accompanied by their legal guardian/parent throughout the day\, no dogs or swinging tools (hatchet\, axe\, maul) are allowed. \n  \nGeneral information:  The purpose of Volunteer Mountain Work Days is the maintenance of MRG’s legendary tree skiing and regeneration zones in our mountain forest. This involves cutting lines as well as setting aside areas for new trees to grow. Everything is done with hand tools. Work days are organized and led by Lars Bruns in consultation with ski area management. Volunteer Mountain Work Days are a great chance to get out on the mountain\, care for your favorite terrain\, and learn about how northeastern mountain forests grow. It is hard work\, but also fun and satisfying to see a ski line take shape\, and how trees will grow in response to care. \nWe welcome both experienced veterans and newcomers to the mountain work days. Each person who works a full day receives a complimentary day pass voucher for each day she or he works. \nSummer/Fall 2024 Schedule \n\nAugust 24th\nSeptember 21st\nSeptember 28th\nOctober 26th\n\n  \nLogistics \n  \n\nReport at 9:00 am at the Cricket Club picnic table.  We’re back down at 3:30 – 4:00 pm.\nMost of the time we hike from the base\, so be physically fit and prepared to hike the mountain top to bottom.\nMost days are held rain or shine – Working in the rain is fun!\nBring work gloves\, hiking boots\, drinks & lunch.\nLoppers are the most useful tool to bring. Make sure they are in good working order.\nWork days navigate our gnarly terrain; no dogs or kids under 12 please. Minors under the age of 18 must register and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.\n\nThe incidence of Lyme Disease is increasing rapidly in Vermont. This disease is debilitating and hard to get rid of. More Info on how to protect yourself while thrashing around the woods of Stark Mountain. \nThe following tools are not allowed: All power tools such as chain saws\, and swinging tools such as hatchets or axes. \nOutfitting for Rain Events: \n\nOuter layer – The primary function is to hold in heat\, as well as keep water out for as long as possible.\n\nGoretex shell or other rainwear\nWaterproof pant shell – old ski pants work well\nWaterproof gaiters (Goretex)\nWaterproof boots beforehand\nBrimmed synthetic hat and fleece hat\nIf the weather is warm\, then staying warm is not a problem. Fast-drying shorts\, gaiters\, and a rain shell may be sufficient.\n\n\nInner layers – No cotton – must keep one warm when wet.\n\nWool or synthetic shirt and long underwear\nFleece\nWool socks\nThin windbreaker underneath the shell to hold even more heat in\n\n\nOther Tips\n\nPut dry (synthetic) clothing in a garbage bag\nBring a second synthetic inner layer shirt (in the garbage bag) to change into at lunch\nPut first aid kit in a waterproof bag\nA thermos of hot tea or soup. Caffeine constricts capillaries and should be avoided\nBring backup gloves. Cold hands will not warm up in wet gloves

SUMMARY:Tuesday Tunes: Bloodroot Gap
DESCRIPTION:Formed after a serendipitous jam session at a Vermont bluegrass festival\, Bloodroot Gap is a musical collaboration between brothers Rob and Jim McCuen (Swing Noire)\, Freeman Corey (Catamount Crossing\, Big Spike Bluegrass) and Jake Munson. \nCorey\, a fiddle player who grew up on a dairy farm in Benson\, is the son of a fine\, old-time fiddler. He started playing at age 10\, learning hundreds of Irish\, Scottish and French-Canadian fiddle tunes from his father. Corey has become one of Vermont’s most sought-after traditional fiddlers\, gracing the stage with Bob Amos and Catamount Crossing\, Big Spike Bluegrass\, The Haymakers and Spare Parts among countless other notable groups and musicians. \nThe McCuen Brothers have been performing side-by-side for nearly 30 years\, founding the bands Wiley Dobbs\, Acoustic Undermind\, and Swing Noire\, and sharing the stage with the likes of Frank Vignola\, Jamie Masefield\, Charlie Hunter and Doug Perkins. The brothers provide tight vocal harmonies and rhythmic accompaniment\, as only twins can. Rob dazzles audiences with his fluid solos on mandolin and guitar\, while Jim holds down the low end on upright bass.

SUMMARY:Learn to Texas Two Step
DESCRIPTION:Join instructor Jean Elizabeth Shockley from Vermont Swings at the Moretown Library for a fun three week series. If you can walk\, you can 2-step! Two-step is a traveling partner dance (that’s where the walking comes in) that can add enjoyment to the music you love listening to. In our time together\, you’ll learn the basic steps and rhythm of the dance\, how to connect with your partner\, and several fun moves that will keep you 2-stepping for years to come.\nNo partner necessary\, please bring shoes that allow you to shuffle and spin without much resistance. Best suited for ages 14 and up. Donations of $5-15 per class are greatly appreciated but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.\nWe look forward to dancing with you this fall!
