DESCRIPTION:The Montpelier Chamber Orchestra is back\, and like Montpelier and other Vermont post-flood towns\, is becoming vibrant again. We will be holding our first full concert in almost four years. Locally well-known music director Daniel Bruce will be conducting Beethoven’s 7th Symphony\, Mozart’s Overture to the Marriage of Figaro\, Ravel’s Pavane for a Dead Princess\, and Florence Price’s uplifting Andante Moderato from her String Quartet in G Major. The concert will be free\, with a suggested donation of $20 for adults\, $10 for students and seniors\, and no charge for children.

DESCRIPTION:Some out-of-this-world music opens the Vermont Philharmonic’s 67th season with a concert program that includes Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony and Gustav Holst’s The Planets. Concerts are Saturday\, October 18th at 4:00 at the Highland Center for the Arts in Greensboro\, and Sunday October 19th at 2:00 pm at the Barre Opera House. Music Director Lou Kosma has been the orchestra’s beloved Music Director and Conductor since May 1999. \nThe Planets\, a seven-movement orchestral suite\, was composed between 1914 and 1917. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the solar system and its supposed astrological character: Mars\, the Bringer of War; Venus\, the Bringer of Peace; Mercury\, the Winged Messenger; Jupiter\, the Bringer of Jollity; Saturn\, the Bringer of Old Age; Uranus\, the Magician; and Neptune\, the Mystic. As the titles suggest\, the movements offer a variety of moods. \nMozart composed his last symphony\, appropriately nicknamed “Jupiter”\, in 1788. It is regarded as one of the greatest symphonies in classical music\, celebrated for its grandeur\, formal complexity\, and contrapuntal mastery. \nThe Vermont Philharmonic is celebrating its sixty-seventh year of bringing the joy of classical music to Central and Northern Vermont. The concert is sponsored by Community National Bank. Tickets are $25 for adults\, $20 for seniors\, $5 for students. SUMMARY:Handel’s Messiah – Vermont Philharmonic
DESCRIPTION:Hallelujah! As Vermont enters the season of cold and darkness\, Handel’s beloved Messiah brings warmth\, light and joy. Conducted by Lisa Jablow\, the Vermont Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus will present two uplifting performances to put everyone in the holiday spirit\, on Friday\, December 5 at 7:30 pm in St Augustine Church in Montpelier\, and Sunday\, December 7 at 2:00 pm in the Barre Opera House. \nThe Vermont Philharmonic performances will present the entire first part of Messiah\, with arias and choral numbers that contemplate the idea of a messiah\, foretell the coming\, and hail the arrival. The concert concludes with the beloved “Hallelujah” chorus from Part II\, and six numbers from Part III celebrating redemption. \nThe outstanding soloists are familiar to Vermonters. They include Colleen Flynn Campbell\, soprano\, Nessa Rabin\, mezzo-soprano\, Connor Trombly\, tenor\, and Erik Kronke\, bass. Mary Jane Austin is the assistant choral director \nCelebrating its 67th Season\, the Vermont Philharmonic is composed of professional and talented amateur musicians from throughout Vermont. It is Vermont’s oldest community orchestra\, founded in 1959 by Jon Borowicz\, emeritus professor of music at Norwich University. Since 1993\, the Philharmonic’s home base has been the Barre Opera House. Lou Kosma has been the Music Director of the Philharmonic since 1999. \nTickets are available online at vermontphilharmonic.com or at the door.

SUMMARY:Journey through Dance
DESCRIPTION:Waltzes and Tangos\, Minuets and Gavottes – the Vermont Philharmonic’s annual Family Concert at 2 pm on Sunday March 8th is a Journey through Dance\, with music by J.S. Bach\, Offenbach\, Prokofiev\, Handel\, Tchaikovsky\, and more. Conducted by Lou Kosma\, the concert at the Barre Opera House is a family favorite. Audiences will happily recognize Offenbach’s Can-Can\, Khachaturian’s Masquerade Waltz\, and Angel Villoldo’s Kiss of Fire tango among others. \nIn addition to the dances\, old and new\, the program features two special new works. Michael Close’s North Star was written for virtuoso violist Elizabeth Reid\, who will be performing the work at the concert. Michael is a cellist and music educator living in Worcester VT\, and the senior composer-mentor at Music-Comp\, encouraging and supporting students in composing and arranging music. Grayson Eley\, a multi-talented freshman at Harwood Union\, has enjoyed his participation in Music-Comp for three years. He wrote Homecoming to celebrate that special place of physical or mental welcome we call “home.” \nThe Vermont Philharmonic is celebrating its sixty-seventh year of making beautiful music in Central Vermont. The concert is sponsored by Passumpsic Bank of St Johnsbury. Tickets are $25 for adults\, $20 for seniors\, $5 for students.
