SUMMARY:Eleva Chamber Players “The Baroque Effect”
DESCRIPTION:The Eleva Chamber Players will explore the influence of Baroque music through the ages by performing Telemann’s Concerto in F for 3 Violins Respighi’s Ancient Airs & Dances Suite 3\, Vivaldi’s Spring from The Four Seasons and Holst’s St. Paul’s Suite in C Major (Op. 29\, No. 2). The concerts will take place on Saturday\, November 11\, 2023\, at 3:00 pm at the United Church of Christ/Waterbury Congregational Church (8 North Main Street\, Waterbury) and on Sunday\, November 12\, 2023 at 3:00 pm at The Inn at Round Barn Farm (1661 East Warren Rd\, Waitsfield). A pre-concert reception will take place before the Round Barn performance. Admission is $25\, $20 for Seniors\, Students. Tickets are available at https://www.elevachamberplayers.com or at the door.

SUMMARY:Holiday Concert\, “Peace On Earth”
DESCRIPTION:Mad River Chorale’s holiday concert this year has the sorely-needed theme\, Peace on Earth. Music by FInzi\, Buxtehude\, Poulenc\, Britten and Chilcott includes some familiar and some less-familiar music of the season. We are delighted to announce that the audience singalong of familiar carols and the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah will return after a three-year hiatus.\nOur community chorus has received very positive responses from our audiences and music reviews. Conductor/musical director Mary Jane Austin and collaborative accompanist Alison Cerutti\, along with vocal coach and operatic bass Erik Kroncke\, prepare\, support\, and and perform with our group of central Vermont singers.

He has appeared on national television as an on-screen personality for AMC’s The Making of the Mob (2015)\, Hortis has been interviewed on NPR stations across the country and for true crime podcasts. He has also been a featured speaker at the New York Public Library\, the Enoch Pratt Free Library\, and the Mob Museum in Las Vegas.\nHortis’s first book\, The Mob and the City: The Hidden History of How the Mafia Captured New York (Prometheus\, 2014)\, was praised by Jerry Capeci\, the dean of mob reporters\, who wrote: “If there’s a better book on the early history of Cosa Nostra in America\, I haven’t seen it.”\nMalcolm Gladwell quoted Hortis’s book in “The Crooked Ladder: The criminal’s guide to upward mobility” New Yorker\, Aug. 3\, 2014.
